This sculpture is called ‘The Writer’, designed by Giancarlo Neri. It was on Hampstead Heath when I walked there with friends in 2005. It is a tribute to the loneliness of writing. The Naples-born artist used six tons of steel and 1,000lb of wood to create the 30 feet high sculpture. When it was on display in Rome two homeless people were said to have lived underneath it. It now resides somewhere in Italy.
